Pirate-Themed Cabins

For over 20 years, I’ve been a long term real estate investor. I really didn’t know any other way. Sure, I knew about AirBnB, even stayed at a couple, but never gave it a second thought as an investment strategy.

$100-400 per door cash flow was the norm…and the norm wasn’t bad. You don’t know what you don’t know, right?

In 2018, minds were blown, eyes were popped and jaws were dropped! Holy cash flow, STR Man!

By dumb luck, I learned about short term vacation rental investing and quickly grabbed my first cabin. I bought in a place I’d never heard of. Normally, I wouldn’t buy property in a city with a “flying rodent” in its name, but Pigeon Forge sounded legit. Turns out, it’s only the hottest market in the US for short term rentals! Score one for blind, irresponsible investing!

Sure, I’m relatively new at this, but I like what I see. Expectations have been blown away! The thought of $200 cash flow now just pisses me off. Once you get a taste of the sweet STR meet, it’s hard to go back.

It’s really a sickness. And the only cure is to buy more! Yes, I’m so crazy for cabins, I picked up another. But this time, I actually did some research and hatched a nutty plan to attempt something brand new in the market.

Traditionally, mountain cabins in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are very rustic…wood walls, wood floors, wood ceilings, fireplaces, hot tubs, pool tables, bear figurines, plaid comforters…98% OF THEM! Aside from bed count and the view factor (some have spectacular views), they all tend to blend together. “My cabin is woody-er than yours!”

This is the most competitive short term rental market in the US. You.Must.Stand.Out.

Hmmmmm, what kind of unique experience could I offer that people would want to book? I’m no area expert, but took a gamble on the assumption that Pigeon Forge visitors like…

Arrrrrgh, shiver me timbers, they’re lovers of the swashbuckling PIRATES! That’s my thesis. And…
